How to Choose a Logo Designer
There are thousands of logo designers online. How do you find one you can trust with creating a logo that will enhance your company’s image?
Here are some key aspects you should keep in mind when making your choice:
The Logo Design Portfolio
Portfolio is probably the most important of all aspects when defining a logo designer. It will give you a good idea of what skill level the designer is at and what you can expect from him or her.
Who better to tell you about a specific logo designer than his or her previous clients?
When you check the testimonials, ensure they include names, and better yet, links to client’s websites. There are a lot of fake testimonials out there with no links or names attached.
The Design Process
A good designer will use a deliberate and well-thought out design process when undertaking a logo project. The more extensive the creative process, the more likely the result will be satisfactory. A typical process for most professional designers will include following steps: creative brief –> research –> sketching –> computer renderings –> presentation –> client’s feedback –> adjustments –> final logo delivery (saved for all applications).
The point of the design process is to ensure that all creative avenues have been explored and tested for the best possible outcome. The price you are paying for a logo design is reflective of the scope of the project as well as the time and effort the designer will dedicate to the project.
A good design costs money. Don’t get fooled by cheap logo providers offering 5 – 10 logo options that are designed by an experienced team of designers. Just think for a moment, how can any business justify charging $99 or $199 for a logo and be able to support a team of experienced designers, working on 10 custom-designed logos? It just doesn’t make sense. Experienced designers charge anywhere between $40 – $150 dollars per hour. Research and development of a good logo that is strategically sound and original can take anywhere between 5 – 45 hours. You do the math.
Time-frame for project completion
A good logo design takes time. A custom logo design usually can take anywhere from one to a few weeks. Be wary of companies who offer a 24 hour turnaround time. It is simply not realistic, and proves that very little time is spent on research of your business and your competition.
Using a good logo designer may cost a few dollars more, but will pay back many times over in the long run. Remember, you get what you pay for.
